You stoop down

Psalm 8

Psalm 8: 1, 3-5, 9

1 O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.

3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
   the moon and the stars that you have established;
4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
mortals that you care for them?

5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God,
and crowned them with glory and honour.
9 O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Lord God, our maker and saviour,
You are above all and beyond all
Yet in all.
You are before all that is
Yet will continue
After the world has turned to dust.
You are beyond our understanding
Greater than our capacity to know
Yet you reveal glimpses of this splendour,
Veiled from our sight
To dim the brilliance,
For fear that we would be blinded by it.
Lord, our God,
How majestic are you, in all the earth.
Lord, our God,
How glorious are you, in all the heavens.

Lord, God, our creator and redeemer,
You stoop down to us.
From clay we are made
And to clay we will return
Yet you muddied your feet
Tramping the roads among us,
And by stooping down to us
You lift us up
Till we sit beside you,
A little lower, only than angels,
Giving glory and honour
To this earthly flesh.
Frail and fragile flesh,
Weak and mortal,
Clothed in righteousness
And immortality
Through your love.
