Winning – The Prize

July 18, 2014 0 0

Philippians 3:12-14

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Merciful God, how real it is to us that we are not at the finish line yet. We can become almost paralyzed by our past failures and inconsistencies. We ask you to assist us in forgetting what we should leave behind us and to move our gaze to look forward to the goal that is still ahead of us.

Grant us a gift of faith so that we can run our own race with the anticipation that we will win the prize for which you first called us to attain. There is no greater prize than knowing Christ and being shaped into His image. Thank you for inviting us to experience humanities greatest achievement, to know Christ. Amen
