Way back when…

Acts 2:44-47

All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Things were much simpler
when your church began.
When folk simply shared all that they had.
How can we possibly hope to rediscover
that level of caring and sharing?
When the needs are so great?
When competition is so fierce?
How can we recover the simplicity?
Now there is too much to do.
Too many rules to follow,
too many rabbit holes
in which to become lost.
Yet you, O God,
are the same God,
calling us to the same purpose
of love
and relationships
and service,
calling us to cut through all the confusion
to rediscover
You
at the centre
of all life.
