vestiges of judgement

Matthew 5:2-9 NRSV

Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. "Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Heavenly Father

We pray for the feckless,
the indolent
the good for nothing
The scroungers
The queue dodgers
The teenage pregnant
The council house baggers
The druggies and drunks
The loose and the lax
the immoral and the amoral.

The selfish and the lazy
the couch potatoes and the hoodies
The Neds and the Chavs
the tan parlour orange
and the palid and pale goth chic.

We pray for them, Lord God,
Not because they need your love
For they are precious children
more loved than they or we can imagine.

We pray for them, Lord God
So that we can excise those little clinkers of prejudice
Those vestiges of judgement
that keep us from blessing them ourselves

Amen
