Uniting in Sport

1 Corinthians 12:14

Lord, we know that when people are strapped for cash they don’t just go hungry…
We know that when people are needy it is not just for food and clothing
For we know we are more than what we eat and what we wear…
And we know too that opportunities dodge the child in need, whose dream is to own a football, or swing a racket,
We give thanks for all who have worked to open doors to the dreams of the children...the new day begins….
And not just for the child!  
We hear the neighbours speak with pride, ‘he’s one of ours, you know’
We watch, the other children, as they glimpse and imagine their own future,
They have a model to follow and lessons to learn;
The other player, the other team, they’re not the enemy,
Nothing is lost when we admire their ability and talent

We thank you for all who have worked to bring a sense of worth to those who feel worthless. 
We thank you for those who have given time and space, for those who coach and encourage. 
We pray today for those whose discontent with injustice provokes them to work towards a fairer world for all, we pray for those who work towards peace in places of conflict, without violence, without fear.

Amen.
