Trusting: being true to self and others

Matthew 26: 36 – 38

Then Jesus went with them to a garden called Gethsemane and told his disciples, “Stay here while I go over there and pray.” Taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he plunged into an agonizing sorrow. Then he said, “This sorrow is crushing my life out. Stay here and keep vigil with me.”

Are there some foundational values which we share with all our brothers and sisters worldwide, regardless of creed, colour or culture? This week we will explore through scripture and prayer some of the foundational values true to the Christian life and community: belonging, encircling, trusting, celebrating, accepting, challenging, letting go….

Trusting God: when all around seems to be falling apart, when the scaffolding of our lives is crumbling, when the future seems bleak, unknown, frightening – stay with us; keep vigil with us, as we in turn will stay and keep vigil with you.

In the dark night of our souls, may we live with trust and love with integrity no matter what. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
