Psalm 118: 21-29 (NRSVA)

21 I thank you that you have answered me
    and have become my salvation.
22 The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the chief cornerstone.
23 This is the Lord’s doing;
    it is marvellous in our eyes.
24 This is the day that the Lord has made;
    let us rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Save us, we beseech you, O Lord!
    O Lord, we beseech you, give us success!

26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
    We bless you from the house of the Lord.
27 The Lord is God,
    and he has given us light.
Bind the festal procession with branches,
    up to the horns of the altar.

28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
    you are my God, I will extol you.

29 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever.

This is the day that the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad!

This is the day when we achieved our goal;
Let us rejoice and be glad!

This is the day when we didn’t play as a team;
Let us reflect and be more cooperative.

This is the day when we lost despite giving it our all;
Let us lament and restore before going back out next time and continuing to give it our all.

This is the day when we got a new teammate;
Let us rejoice and be welcoming!

This is the day when a fellow player quit the team;
Let us lament and wish them well on their journey.

This is the day when I played my best game ever;
Let us rejoice and be glad without being complacent…

This is the day when I let my team and coach down;
Let us reflect and put things right…

This is the day when I’m glad to be part of a team, a family, a community, a body;
Let us rejoice and support, encourage and love one another each and every day.

Prayer:

Lord,
You made and make us each day.
May we take each moment to give thanks,
to make peace, to act lovingly and to serve faithfully.
Thank you for every chance we get to rejoice, to reflect, to celebrate and to lament.
Thank you, God, for you are good.
Your love endures forever.
Thank you.
Amen.
