This holy day

Genesis 2:1-3

​Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.  Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

God, our Creator, 

I praise you for this wonderful world.

Lord, sometimes I find it hard to stop.

Resting makes me restless.

So many things still to do.

I need another day in the week.

But six days was enough for You

to make a universe.

And then You rested.

 

Not with a weary sigh

but with a satisfied smile

for You saw all that You had made

and it was very good.

 

Lord, on this holy day,

I come apart with You

to rest.

I look back over the week

and remember all that I have seen

of all that You have done.

 

I smile and relax in Your presence.

Tomorrow You will bring the sun up

on another week of creation

and I will simply watch and wonder.

 

God, our Creator, 

I praise you for this wonderful world.
