The widow and orphan

Listen to this daily worship
Zechariah 7: 8-10 (NRSVA)
8 The word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying: 9 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgements, show kindness and mercy to one another; 10 do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.
Wow! This passage just stops you in your tracks, doesn’t it?
Can you imagine what the world would be like if we actually, collectively followed these words? There would be peace, equality and enough for everyone. Wow!
This is what God wants for his people. Cynics say that it can never happen but if enough people display these values, live them daily in their lives, surely we can influence others to do the same? It wouldn‘t be easy but we CAN be the change that we want to see in this world. It is nearing that time of year when we start to think about our New Year resolutions. Will you join me friends by pledging to live by these values this coming year? Surely these are more meaningful, more impactful, than learning a language or losing weight? Imagine the change if we make these verses our daily prayer for 2025!
Prayer:
Almighty God,
Help me daily to administer true justice,
Help me to show mercy and compassion to others.
Help me through how I live to raise up the oppressed, the stranger, the refugee, the broken, and to act and speak for those who have no voice or representative.
Grow within me a pure and loving heart,
Help me to be like Jesus
Now and forever
Amen
