The prison of success

Luke 19:4-10

Zacchaeus ran ahead and climbed a sycamore fig tree
To see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him,
“Zacchaeus, come down immediately, I must stay at your house today.”
So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly
All the people saw this and began to mutter,
“He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord,
Look, Lord! Here and now I give half my possessions
To the poor,
And if I have cheated anyone out of anything
I will pay back four times the amount.
Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come
To this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham,
For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.”

Song
God forgave my sin in Jesus' name
I've been born again in Jesus' name
And in Jesus' name I come to you
To share His love as He told me to

He said: 'Freely, freely, you have received
Freely, freely give
Go in My name, and because you believe
Others will know that I live.'

Prayer

Lord I used to watch you from a distance
Curious but not quite sure
I was successful, had everything I needed
Achieved by the work of my own hands
Why would I need you?

I’ve done a lot of things to get this high
People envy me, but friends are scarce
I had choices to make and no room for regrets
If only you hadn’t asked
‘Was it worth it?’

An uncertain examination of my heart
Reveals the damage, it is cold and dying
Your words penetrate and truth hits its mark
I am poor beyond recognition
Plunging from the heights of deception
I find grace and mercy at foot of the cross
Forgiveness shocks my heart into beating
I am born again!
