Ecclesiastes 8: 15 (NRSVA)

15 So I commend enjoyment, for there is nothing better for people under the sun than to eat, and drink, and enjoy themselves, for this will go with them in their toil through the days of life that God gives them under the sun.

This short text from Ecclesiastes invites us all to put our lives in perspective. We only live once and we only live for a short time compared to the age of this globe on which we are spinning.

My wife Martha and I have a favourite song that we both love. Its sung by Jo Dee Messina and written by Bill Luther and Marv Green, entitled ‘Was That My Life’. Here’s a few lines from the lyric:

"I close my eyes and think how lucky I have been,

To hold the ones I love and share my dreams with them.

All those sunny days and all those starry skies

Good morning kisses and sweet good nights.

Oh, I can't tell them enough,

Just how much that they are loved.”

We all know that life isn’t always as sweet as apple pie. However today’s text invites us to ponder the good things in our lives past and present and be thankful for them.

PRAYER:

Lord,

I know the Summer days are coming to an end

Darker days are up ahead of all of us

But today is Tuesday

Thankful Tuesday

So I want to enjoy what I have here in the now

I also want to say that I trust you with my tomorrow

Please help me live well today
