Revelation 3: 19-22 (NRSVA)

19 I reprove and discipline those whom I love. Be earnest, therefore, and repent. 20 Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me. 21 To the one who conquers I will give a place with me on my throne, just as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’

Jesus lifts his hand ready to knock at the door. Before he knocks he thinks about all he is taking on. All that will happen. All the joy and heartache, wonder and headache, confusion and setback, celebration and rejection. Years are compressed into seconds as time slows down. He catches sight of the scars on his wrists. Knuckles suspended in the air he thinks about all the work. All the investment. All the energy it’s going to take. All the effort. Time stands still.

And he knocks.

And he grins.

PRAYER:

Thank you Jesus that you come to us

that you still reach out to us

that you want to know us

that you care,

that you aren’t daunted.

Amen.
