Sleeper awake

Ephesians 5:8-14

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible – and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:

‘Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.’

‘Sleeper awake! Rise from the dead and Christ will shine in you’

PRAYER

Awaken me! Expose me!

Lord I confess my brokenness and weaknesses,

my life orientated to the shadows and lured into darkness.

Forgive all that is false, pretence, unreal.

I confess -

The pleasures lost I sadly mourned,

  But never wept for Thee,

Till grace the sightless eyes received,

  Thy loveliness to see. [1]

Shine on me with that grace,

the Light of your presence.

Let me walk in the light,

to flourish in all that is good and right and true;

that I may live a worthy life,

a life that is the ‘real deal’

and pleases You Lord, to live as a person of light.

Amen
