1 John 1: 1-4

1 We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us— 3 we declare to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

I find this section from 1 John a very convincing piece of writing. John is telling us what he has seen, heard and witnessed first hand. For him Jesus of Nazareth is the real thing. There is nothing etherial, spooky or ghost-like about this story. What he is recalling is not from an over blown fertile imagination. It is what he encountered. It is what he touched and shared in. He is trying to explain in words the sheer joy and love he has known and still does know since living along side Jesus.

The implications of all this is that we too are called to enter into the joy and fellowship of this new communion with God. Joy now there is an interesting word to take into this new day. ‘J’ stands for Jesus, ‘Y’ stands for you  and ‘O’ well that means nothing in-between and that is sheer Joy!

Lord,
Thank you for Joy
When it just happens
Riding in a car
In conversation with a friend
Walking a country lane
Listening to a piece of music
Hearing a long lost familiar voice
Touching another’s hand
Waiting for a moment
Doing nothing
Feeling all is well
Just knowing
Being overwhelmed by grace
The treasure found in silent prayers
The moment of turning
The dawning of a new day
Thank you
For the joy of resurrection
