Restlessly lost

Psalm 91: 14-15 (NRSVA)

14 Those who love me, I will deliver;
    I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them;
    I will be with them in trouble,
    I will rescue them and honour them.

I count myself among the restless: the fidgety bodied, the wandering minded people. When my mind isn’t moving then my body wants to be, walking in new places seeing sights that stop me in my tracks from a view of mountains cascading away from me to the particular angle of a stream bouncing over a rock.

But nothing in life should be seen with only rose tinted glasses, I am all too aware that restlessness can sometimes equal lost-ness.

It can be hard to keep moving when you feel lost, hard to keep exploring and smiling. Sometimes this restlessness can turn inwards tearing at ourselves because it feels easier, in the moment, than to risk tearing along another road that may turn out to be hard or lonely.

But God hears the calls of our silent heart and our loud mouth. God knows these roads well and comes to find us. God comes to lift us out of our restless lost-ness into love and a new adventure.

PRAYER:

Dear listening God

Thank you that you hear us when we feel beyond hearing

Thank you that you find us when we fear we are beyond sight

Thank you that you guide us to new roads and rest stops

when we had begun to despair of our journeying souls

Amen

Lent Disciplines

As we think about the wilderness this week, let’s take time every day to contemplate God’s gift of creation with its incredible varieties of habitat. Consider if there’s anything you can do this week to actively care for God’s world.
