John 17: 20-26 (NRSVA)

20 ‘I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24 Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.

25 ‘Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.’

Jesus, it’s me again. I’m not copying in the others in this one. It’s for your eyes only.

Following on from yesterday’s message I’m a bit worried that I’m seeing things differently from the others, and yet we’ve all been part of the one journey: heard the same teaching, witnessed the same miracles and been given the same direction. What am I missing? Is there something wrong with me?

That can’t be good for the Mission, can it? I’ve followed your lead and prayed about it (see attached). Can you forward this one up the line?

Yours, aye,

Thomas

Prayer [Attachment: PRAYER_THOMAS_v4.doc]

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Amen.
