Power to change

June 12, 2015 0 0

Acts‬ 3‬:19

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

We want to change Father, we really do.  We are so full of our own thoughts, our own ideas, our own ways.  None of them are really bad, after all you created us to think, to learn, to create, to work.  But we have become rooted in our own desires, our own lives, our cynical world, our relative thinking, our confusion, our indecision.

So the poor go on staying poor.  And the resurrection seems without power. Despite your promise, despite your blood bought freedom, despite the wonders of your resurrection, despite the power of your Holy Spirit.

We even quote Jesus saying 'The poor will always be with you' to ease our tortured and guilty souls.  We rage against man's inhumanities and the injustice of our governments and political systems.  We hide behind our organisations and our institutions putting responsibility as far away from our own door as possible.  Overwhelmed, we 'do our part' and leave it to somebody else.

And the disadvantaged go on being disadvantaged.   And the resurrection seems without power.

Lord, where is this new world order that the resurrection has ushered in?  Where is this power to change the lives of those who are most needy?

Is it in me?  That same power that raised Jesus from the dead?  Living in me?  Wouldn't that be something?!

Is it in your church?  In the joining of many as one?  Turning over the status quo, bringing life from death, healing from sickness, hope from despair.   Turning the whole world upside down?

A fruit tree must bear its fruit.  You can't pluck apples from a fig tree nor figs from a pear tree.  The growth of your resurrection church must bear fruit for this new world order, the Kingdom of God.

Father, forgive me, I really didn't know what I was doing.
Father, forgive us, we would feed your lambs.
Father, forgive and tend your trees that we would bear fruit for eternal life.

Amen
