Psalm 25: 9

He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.

Waiting is the practice of Advent.

And there is a humility in waiting expressed through this verse in Psalm 25.

Humble waiting is one of the vital and necessary practices of peacemaking.

The humility to listen, to wait until it is the right time to speak and work out the right thing to say and the humility to apologise when we get things wrong.

Each day, 81 year old emeritus Bishop Paride Taban of South Sudan recites his 28 word prayer for peace while doing his morning exercises. Perhaps you could repeat one of these words each morning during Advent, there are more than enough to see us through to Christmas. You can watch the video of Bishop Paride Taban on YouTube here.

Advent God

May we continue

to work

and pray

with one another

for peace

Amen.
