Psalm 17

Hear, O Lord, my righteous plea;
listen to my cry.
Give ear to my prayer–
it does not rise from deceitful lips.
May my vindication come from you;
may your eyes see what is right.
Though you probe my heart and examine me at night,
though you test me, you will find nothing;
I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.
As for the deeds of men–
by the word of your lips
I have kept myself
from the ways of the violent.
My steps have held to your paths;
my feet have not slipped.
I call on you, O God, for you will answer me;
give ear to me and hear my prayer.

Lord,

You are our companion, you journey with us, revealing, providing, sustaining and satisfying. You wake us from our selfish ways to see our need for you

and Lord you change us.

In Christ, we see this world and ourselves in a different light, because in your mercy you have illuminated the darkness. Thank you.

By your Holy Spirit you renew us,

we become heirs, children of the promise, and so in times of need and distress we turn to you. We do not boast in our own ability to be good, but we give thanks for your hand on our lives, for your merciful dealings with us.

We, who are your people, precious to you.

We, who have in the past struggled with our own self indulgence,

We, who have in the past thoughtlessly pursued wrong things

We have seen the light of your glory, we have seen the righteousness of your ways.

Our hearts are satisfied, and we live in anticipation of that great day, that great waking, when we will see you face to face. AMEN
