Job 38:1-3

Job 38:  1 - 3 and 12 -14

Then the Lord answered Job from the whirlwind:   “Who is this that questions my wisdom
with such ignorant words?    Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you,
and you must answer them.

“Have you ever commanded the morning to appear
and caused the dawn to rise in the east?   Have you made daylight spread to the ends of the earth,
to bring an end to the night’s wickedness?   As the light approaches,
the earth takes shape like clay pressed beneath a seal;
it is robed in brilliant colours

noun

  1. a large round juicy citrus fruit with a tough bright reddish-yellow rind
  2. a bright reddish-yellow colour like that of the skin of a ripe orange

adjective
adjective: orange
reddish yellow.

Orange for experience

It’s the colour of the fiery sunset with a paler tentative version  for dawn.   As a fruit, the sharp sweet tang of its juice gets us awake for the day, and after the summer’s heat orange mellows us into Autumn, and its presence burnishes the freshly ploughed field and the clay on the potter’s wheel.

Prayer

Lord there is nothing more beautiful than dawn, when I’ve managed to be up for it  !
The new day spreading across the sky to remind me that my Creator is all around.
Orange brings me beauty, sharpness, sweetness – vivid feelings that make me feel alive,
and glad to be alive to have experiences.      Life in all its fullness, as you intended for each one of us.
Thank you for the vivid memorable days of my life which keep me going when things are more difficult –
Walk with me today, Lord,  so that I see people and the world as you do – beautiful, colourful, bright, mellow - so that today can join my list of memorable days.
And just as the beauty of a fallen autumn leaf, or the setting sun, can take me by surprise or seem like a random surge of colour in a dull day, guide me to consider random acts of kindness for strangers I will meet today.
Something spontaneous which comes from knowing  that your love enriches my life, and through me, can enrich some else’s.

Amen.
