Lord I Don’t Own You

Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!
Serve the LORD with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the LORD, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the LORD is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Lord,
I sometimes wonder about myself
The language I use to describe you.
Am I disrespectful to you?
Often I speak of you as though I owned you
I say things like;
My God
My Saviour
My Lord
You are not mine to own
It is I who belong to you
You own me
Forgive my foolish ramblings
And my conceited self centred approach to worship
I need to be more respectful
More reverent
More honest about our relationship
I know you are my brother
But you are also God
Help me find words and actions that bring honour to your name.
And peace to my mind.
