Psalm 51:10-13

Psalm 51. 10-13

Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
so that sinners will turn back to you.

Luke 3. 21-22

The Baptism and Genealogy of Jesus

21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

God of mystery,
Hidden and yet present
Lift the mist of loneliness  and unbelief from our eyes
Forgive us when we walk and talk
As though we were alone in the universe
Let us glimpse the communion of saints
The mysteries of the eternal
Bind us into this fellowship ring of unending grace
You who exist in perfect community,
You  who are overflowing abundant love
Gather us up in your arms.
Shelter the little  ones who find themselves rolling into another day
Where hate and war seek to engulf compassion
Where confusion and noise drown out their cries
Turn your face towards us
In your mercy and grace
Reveal yourself as you did in olden days
Create wonders before our ears and eyes
Help us hear your dove- like voice cooing,
Calling us,”beloved”
We need to feel your presence
Restore us to life
For only in knowing we are loved
Can you enable us to overcome the absurdity of our loneliness
Father, Son and Holy Spirit
Draw us into life giving fellowship of your constant love.
