As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
It is so easy for gospel informed activity to be knocked on the head by Christian institutions and organisations because of financial implications. Ideas and projects have been started with great enthusiasm only to be brought to an abrupt end in order to balance the books. Too often the most creative among us are frustrated by a lack of vision from the people who should know better. It is not uncommon for the life changing Word of God to be under threat by the lure and attractiveness of material security. Evil seeks to continually undermine the people of God. We are called to hold our nerve and invest in the Kingdom.
Sower God
You never give up sowing the seed
Forgive us when we promise so much
And deliver so little
When we stand so tall one day
And wither in the heat of the next day
When finance trumps faith
Make us fertile soil for your word
Guard our hearts against evil
Give us staying power
Help us to promote the work of the Kingdom
Without counting the cost
