Inside Out

Acts 5: 1-11

Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.

Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”

Lord,
If you were to mark out all our mistakes;
If you were to call us to account for our broken promises,
If you  were to ask for the money we have withheld in our offerings,
Or the time we have withheld in our service,
None of us could look you in the eye.

We have all slipped away quietly to do our own thing.
Like Ananias, we too have said one thing and done another.
Forgive our short memories
And our critical spirits.
We are grateful that you have not judged us according to our actions
Pardon and deliver us from hypocrisy
Turn our inside thinking inside out,
So that what we say, is what we think,
And what we think, brings glory to your name
