Romans 8: 9-11 (NIVUK)

9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

The Prophet Malachi tells us that the Lord is as a refiner’s fire (Malachi 3:3). A refiner’s fire melts down metal, perhaps gold or silver, to purify it. To make it shine and glisten. This process of refining is an ongoing journey for you and me.

We know what it feels like to be held in the hot fire, as our impurities and insecurities melt off. We are in the realm, the kingdom, the domain, of the Spirit. We have a new spiritual habitat. This is a new location that we might not fully grasp all the time, but it is full of wonder and new incandescent power. It’s the same power, in fact, that came on the resurrection morning and caused Jesus’ buried body to breathe again.

The same resurrection flame dwells within the Christian now. Our souls have become the mercy seat, the place of presence. It’s an eternal thing, once given, always given.

Our Father can’t resist having you in His presence, partnering with you, loving you, freeing you, burning within you for the sake of his Love for the World. Oh, the presence.

Prayer:

Oh Lord be magnified
be glorified
Shine Jesus Shine
Incalculable glory
Let mercy and Grace abound
Fix in us, thy humble dwelling.
Oh the Presence, our holy company.

Amen.
