Ephesians 5: 1-2 (NRSVA)

1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, 2 and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Recently I was hit between the eyes by the idea that, if we are brave enough to embrace death, God will take care of resurrection. Wow! God is not asking us to somehow manufacture resurrection but to trust enough in our belovedness to let go when the time is right. And I am not (just) talking about the physical death we all encounter at the end of this life. Instead, it is the many ‘small deaths’ we face throughout our lives: those times of pain, suffering, disappointment, from circumstances so often outwith our control. Too often we cling desperately to how things are or were, rather than letting go in love, and awaiting new life to spring forth. This is the ongoing practice of death that we are invited into so we might experience the ongoing reality of resurrection all around us.

PRAYER:

May I fully be,

who I truly am,

by imitating you,

O God, my Creator, AMEN.

LENT FOCUS 4: PASTURE

This week our focus is ‘pasture’. See if you can find time each day this week to read Psalm 23 and reflect on the imagery it contains. Consider what verses you will carry with you for the rest of the day. You could even try memorising some or all of the verses.
