Matthew 7: 24-27 (NIV-UK)
24 ‘Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.’
Matthew’s warning is clear: a life built on shifting sands — on fleeting approval, selfish ambition or comfort and convenience — cannot withstand the storms of life.
Hearing Jesus’ words but not acting on them leaves us exposed, fragile and unsettled.
True security comes from building our lives on the rock that is God’s Word. We then ground ourselves in love, obedience and trust. When storms come, the house of our lives then stands firm, because our foundation is unshakeable.
God invites us to root ourselves in His wisdom, letting his Word guide our choices, shaping our relationships and every decision so that we can endure the storms of life with strength, resilience and peace.
Prayer:
Lord God, help us to build our lives on the rock of Your Word.
Keep us steady in faith, unshaken by life’s storms.
