Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16 (NIV-UK)

In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
    let me never be put to shame;
    deliver me in your righteousness.

Turn your ear to me,
    come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
    a strong fortress to save me.

Since you are my rock and my fortress,
    for the sake of your name lead and guide me.

Keep me free from the trap that is set for me,
    for you are my refuge.

Into your hands I commit my spirit;
    deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.

15

My times are in your hands;
    deliver me from the hands of my enemies,
    from those who pursue me.

16

Let your face shine on your servant;
    save me in your unfailing love.

When you ask God for something, do you have a timeframe in mind? I noticed over the years that I often asked for things today, things I needed in the moment or at least in the next 3-5 business days.

I keep forgetting, that God doesn’t operate on my time, on human time. If I want my life to be rebooted or even to install some add-ons I am going to have to deal with a celestial loading screen. The psalmist in our reading today is asking for God to do a lot of things too, and I feel like they’re about to run into a loading screen of their own.

How will they react do you think?

How do you react?

Do you tap your fingers and grumble or get up and help build the upgrade with God?

I think I have been guilty of some finger taping in my time but I’m trying now to be more of a builder, to have an active hand in the reboot, to not just sit and watch my screen go dark with an eye roll but to be alongside God and be part of the reason it lights up again.

Prayer:

God outside of our time

We forget that you are more than we can imagine

Longer and older and somehow also younger than we can imagine

Help us to be patient waiting for solutions

Guide us to the places we can build up our lives

Encode your heart into our own

Amen
