Romans 15: 13 (NIV-UK)

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

What a powerful blessing this verse is, offering a lifetime of encouragement! Abounding in hope!

Christian hope is not wishful thinking or naive optimism. Rather, it is firm confidence in the eternal and unchanging promises of God. God is not merely the provider of hope; He is so much more, He is the God of hope.

When your own hope is in short supply, you are invited to draw directly from an infinite, divine well. In a world filled with hopelessness and despair, Paul’s prayer here is that believers will continue to draw from a fountain of hope that will never run dry.

Now read the verse again and discover that there is still more; for hope, joy and peace combine to sustain and strengthen us as we trust in God.

Joy is not a fleeting happiness felt only when life is going well for us and all seems bright. True joy is the gladness of heart that comes from knowing and loving God at all times and whatever our circumstances.

Being at peace is not just the absence of conflict in our lives. Real peace is the blessing of being in tune with God through faith in Christ. Even when the future seems uncertain and unpredictable, God’s steadfast love and faithfulness will keep our minds in perfect peace, for He is working all things together for good.

There is so much to anticipate when we trust in the God of hope. Such anticipation, such hope, can flow through our lives offering a joy and a peace which spill over in our daily living and into our relationships with others.

Prayer:

Lord, fill me with your hope today. Help me to see life through the lens of your love, that I may feel your divine joy and unshakeable peace within. Let Your joy be my strength and Your peace my companion. May my life be a reflection of Your love, bringing light and encouragement to everyone I meet. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
