Matthew 11: 28-30 (NRSVA)

28 ‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’

Has life taken the off ramp? Gone off script? Off trajectory? Off on one?

Come to me Jesus says. All you key workers carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest. Come to me Jesus says. All you creative freelancers having to hustle even more inventively and I will give you rest. Come to me all you furloughed, laid off, redundant and sacked and I will give you rest. Come to me all you students deferring years or otherwise in limbo and I will give you rest. Come to me exhausted parent, partners, carers, counsellors and administrators and I will give you rest.

Jesus says, bring me your reports, your assignments, your to-do lists, your work flows, your spreadsheets, your whiteboards, your group chats, your mind maps, your unread inboxes, your shared drives, your bullet points, your targets and I will give you rest.

They’ll keep.

Find rest for your souls, Jesus says. Switch to silent, unplug, change your status to ‘resting’, let go for a while, unhunch your shoulders, sit with me.

PRAYER:

We come to you in search of
rest
respect
respite
rediscovery
recognition.
Amen.
