God of all the ages

Job 5: 26-27

You shall come to your grave in ripe old age, as a shock of grain comes up to the threshing floor in its season.  See, we have searched this out; it is true. Hear, and know it for yourself.

We may not like to admit it, but we know that death is never far away. We feel the grief of separation and, as the years roll by, we see new separations coming with growing regularity.

Sometimes we look at life and wonder why it has to finish in death. We might even hope that our times will never end. But we can be sure that they will.

As one light dims for us, we ask that you would show us another which grows stronger, beaming brighter from across our last horizon. Help us always to know that where we go, you will be there. And may that Good News be our hope and our goal. For now. For ever. AMEN.
