Extraordinary Jesus

Listen to this daily worship
Isaiah 9: 6-7 (NRSVA)
6
For a child has been born for us,
a son given to us;
authority rests upon his shoulders;
and he is named
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.7
His authority shall grow continually,
and there shall be endless peace
for the throne of David and his kingdom.
He will establish and uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time onwards and for evermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
I wonder what Jesus’s favourite colour was. It's the kind of question children are asked all the time, so why not Jesus. Perhaps it was brown like the wood in Joseph’s workshop, perhaps it was green like the trees he saw on his errands with Mary, or blue like the sea he smelled and played by. Maybe it was purple. Purple for being a prince, purple for seeking spiritual connection with everyone around him.
Jesus was both an ordinary child and an extraordinary one. He was born on the margins and into the middle of history, he spoke in a new way but also in a local accent. He had God-given authority but he was gentle, and although he knew great cruelty was coming, he spoke with deep love.
Yes Jesus was an ordinary child and an extraordinary one, so is every human child in their own way. And I think Jesus knows that better than anyone.
Prayer:
Dear God of children
Thank you that you know how amazing children are
Thank you that you sent a child to save us
Help us to find Jesus’s peace and love in our world
Help us to bring that peace to children everywhere
Amen
