Psalm 19: 1-6 (NRSVA)

1 The heavens are telling the glory of God;
    and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours forth speech,
    and night to night declares knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
    their voice is not heard;
4 yet their voice goes out through all the earth,
    and their words to the end of the world.

In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy,
    and like a strong man runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
    and its circuit to the end of them;
    and nothing is hidden from its heat.

In Psalm 19 all creation is alive, giving voice to your glory Lord, throughout the whole earth.

By simply being alive each flower tells of your glory,

Each bird proclaims your glory,

Each blade of grass declares your glory,

Each tiny ant speaks of your glory.

All creation gives voice to your glory.

But Lord, we have failed to listen. 

We put your creation into boxes:

that which can be admired, 

that which is to be exploited,

that which we think has no value, which can be forgotten and dismissed. 

Help us to understand Lord that you grieve each voice lost:

each voice lost in the name of profit

each voice lost in the name of progress

each voice lost to manmade disasters

each voice lost to climate change

each voice lost to extinction

Help us to open the boxes

with fresh ears to listen

with new understanding and reverence

for the sound of your creation

And help us to use our voices

to protect and nurture

the voice of your creation
