Delighting in Yourself and Others

Rachel July 30, 2016 0 0

1 Samuel 18:5

David was successful in all the missions on which Saul sent him, and so Saul made him an officer in his army. This pleased all of Saul's officers and men.

Loving God,
I would like to be better at what I do,
I wish I was more successful,
I wonder why I am not more talented,
Why did you make my colleague more able than me?
I would like to be better at my job,
I wish I was more successful at sport and leisure pursuits,
I wonder why I am not more gifted and skilled,
Why are all my friends more able than me?
I would like to be better at managing money,
I wish I was more successful at raising my family,
I wonder why I am not more talented at keeping friendships,
Why are my family more able than me?

What was that you said?  This is a new day? A new beginning?
You have made me as a person in my own right,
I have different skills and talents, a personality all of my own,
I have a purpose that is set for me, and it’s different to the person I envy for being successful.
Success comes in different ways, you have chosen me to be... ME!
Thank you Lord,.... help me now to delight in those I have admired from afar.
To appreciate the “success” of my colleague, friend and neighbour,
And to thank you for who I am, and what I contribute, for what I do is as important to you as the others around me.
Help me to thrive, to grow and to move forward as we write this chapter of life together.

Amen.
