Dangers of seeking inherited wealth

Luke 12: 13-15

The Story of the Greedy Farmer

13 Someone out of the crowd said, “Teacher, order my brother to give me a fair share of the family inheritance.”

14 He replied, “Mister, what makes you think it’s any of my business to be a judge or mediator for you?”

15 Speaking to the people, he went on, “Take care! Protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot.”

Dear Lord,
As a nurse in care of elderly,
I remember the relatives coming from nowhere,
gathering around a death bed,
like vultures,
lured by the hope of inheritance…..

It is never a pretty sight,
to see people salivating over money…..
pretending to care,
pretending to show compassion,
pretending to weep,
but all the while,
all they really want,
is the money…….

And then after the relative dies,
there is the rush to receive the inheritance,
Why is the lawyer not acting quickly enough?
I need that holiday,
I deserve that car,
I must have that home improvement……
and I want it NOW!!!!

Lord,
we are all guilty of the lure of money,
and we all desire the hope of inheritance…..
Help us though to care for our relatives,
so that we don’t receive an undeserved gift…
And help us when we receive our inheritance,
to view it as a gift and not a right…..
And to use it wisely,
offering a fitting proportion of it back to you,
for your kingdom work,
in Jesus name,
AMEN
