John 14 1-6

Jesus the Way to the Father

14 “Do not be worried and upset,” Jesus told them. “Believe[a] in God and believe also in me. 2 There are many rooms in my Father's house, and I am going to prepare a place for you. I would not tell you this if it were not so.[b] 3 And after I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that you will be where I am. 4 You know the way that leads to the place where I am going.”

5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going; so how can we know the way to get there?”

6 Jesus answered him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me.

Last week was a long road to travel.
How did we get from there to here?

Hosanna! loud Hosanna!
to Crucify! Crucify!

Palm branches
to a wooden cross.

Garments on the road
to lots cast for his robe.

Disciples’ feet washed
to a body laid out for burial.

The outspoken preacher
silent before Pilate.

The loyal friends
In denial.

The mother who gave him birth
weeping as he dies.

The friend of the poor
laid in a rich man’s tomb.

A huge stone, and a guard,
but the tomb is empty.

He is not here!
He is risen!

Life
to death
to life again.

And nothing will ever be the same.
