Angelic Songs

Luke 2: 9-14

An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

For a moment we pause, and marvel…

we hear angels singing over the hills

and we join their song:

Glory to God in the highest.

Beyond the taming influence of the familiar,

we give God the glory for this

unique moment of reconciling grace.

Amazing! Glory to God!

For a moment we pause and marvel….

we worship the child in a manger

given names full of mystery and miracle

Emmanuel, “God with us”

Jesus, “God to the rescue”.

We look down on this vulnerable one

God meeting us in our weakness

no longer apart from us,

but for ever a part of us.

Amazing! Glory to God!

For a moment we pause, and marvel…..

lest we sing our carols without thinking

lest we rush through this day without stopping

lest we miss the wonder of it all

Hark! our  hearts within us sing,

Glory to the newborn King. AMEN
