Romans 12: 9-18 (NRSVA)

9 Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; 10 love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honour. 11 Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. 18 If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

Here are words of encouragement from someone who knew what it was like to be misunderstood, to be beaten and bruised for his faith. He seeks to follow Jesus’s example.

Moses too did not have an easy time doing what God told him to do. There were days that he felt hopeless and low in spirit. Like when Pharaoh became more brutal to the people of Israel.

But God had planned out everything. Even when things became difficult, Moses would call out to God. And at the end of the task, Moses was victorious with God. Whatever spiritual strength and resources Moses did not have, he trusted that God would supply him, and He did.

Sometimes we will be called to do things we do not feel excited about or confident in fulfilling. Sometimes, we face uncertainties and anxieties. We do not know if something will go well or not. But just like Moses, we just need to be faithful.

Since God knows what we are capable of, we must learn to believe in ourselves. What we should do is to humble ourselves before God, and ask Him how best to go about fulfilling our vocation. We are called to be servants not kings. Following in the footsteps of Moses and many others.

So, be faithful to God. Listen and follow His command. He will never give us a challenge that we cannot handle. He gives the greatest challenges to the toughest heroes.

PRAYER:

How often, Lord, do you reach out and invite us to join You in the work that You want to see accomplished on this earth, but our many questions hold us back?

Lord, give us the faith to look beyond the surface. May we be confident about acting on the promptings that You place on our hearts, not putting them off till they are forgotten. Grant us the will and the faith to turn aside, and to encounter You, for where You are, where You speak, where You meet with us, is holy ground. Amen.
