A Prayer for the Morning

Listen to this daily worship
Psalm 5: 1-3 (NRSVA)
1 Give ear to my words, O Lord;
give heed to my sighing.
2 Listen to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God,
for to you I pray.
3 O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.
When I was a wee girl my Mum taught me and my brother a prayer to say each night at bedtime. Many of you probably know this prayer: “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
It is on reflection an intense prayer for a wee child to pray and some would think maybe a tad morbid but I always drew comfort from the words. Whatever happened to me, I was the Lord’s.
Last year I had covid and combined with my asthma I really struggled to breathe.
Sometimes I’d wake from sleeping or napping gasping for air. Those nights when I had covid I went to sleep with my childhood prayer firmly upon my lips. Now when my time comes, I will be ecstatic to wake up in glory but for now I still have much to do here on earth! So each morning when I awoke in my bed thanks and praises sang from my mouth that I had been given the gift of a fresh new day.
PRAYER:
Father, Son and Spirit
Thank you for a new day.
Thank you that no matter what the weather, this is a day for living.
Thank you that no matter what the weather, you are with me.
At the start of this new day Lord, set my heart upon you.
As I go about my day keep me focused upon you
And turn me around when needed.
Thank you for the people I will meet.
Thank you for all you put on my path.
Thank you for all the opportunities I will have to share your love, throughout this day.
I love you Lord
Amen
