A golden sign!

Listen to this daily worship
Luke 2: 8-12 (NRSVA)
8 In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: 11 to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.’
What would the modern day equivalent of the shepherds be? Someone working the night shift, perhaps. A lorry driver like my son? A care worker or nurse? A warehouse worker?
Whatever the equivalent I think it would be those doing practical work, providing a service for others. Ordinary, everyday people. Because that is who God came to be with, ordinary, everyday people. Ordinary, everyday people like you and me. God came to be with us. To live with us, to love us, to transform us.
What a gift.
The greatest of gifts.
Prayer:
Father God,
Thank you for the gift of your son Jesus, the best gift… Ever!
