A Festival of Starwork

Jock Stein August 06, 2014 0 0

Psalm 139: 13-14

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

Surely, Lord God, your act of creation was a festival of starwork. A delight for the three of you, a way of blessing one another aeons before we began to discover it all. Now we see it, now we don’t, as you have wonderfully included what is random in the riches of the universe. We shall add our teaspoonful of joy to the praise of starburst and dark matter; we shall throw our prayer in the air with delight; we shall weave our thoughts into the web of all things.

Today we shall step forward with hope, in the light of our local star we call sun. If we stumble, you will catch us, for each of our moving molecules are numbered, our names known by you. And we shall share our hope with others, because you have so happily made a festive offering of our humanity in Jesus Christ our Saviour, Amen.
