Psalm 50: 1-2

1 The mighty one, God the Lord,
    speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
    God shines forth.

The rise of the eco movement is not just a human initiative — it reflects God’s initiative to restore the planet and all creation. And this loving God invites us to get to know his Son. We can make a start even if we do so doubting by gazing at creation. Creation points to the creator.

So what would happen if you overheard God conversing with his creation? How do you think creation would respond to the God who set everything in motion? In Psalm 50 the writer suggests this very thing. He creates a scenario in which the whole of creation is answering God’s request to substantiate his justice claims. Creation declares God is fair and just.

Think how it would feel to be tuned into all of creation in joyful harmony declaring the glorious purposes of God. Creation singing and dancing but also longing to inherit the beauty of its potential communion with God.

JACK: "My first encounter with God was unexpected
A voice was voiced but not heard
I was startled because I was overhearing a conversation
Between the creator and the creation
Deep was calling to deep
A musical rumbling
The ground was vibrating
And I was out of my depth
It was the sheer beauty that astounded me
Then as God came into view
But not in focus
The creation started to sing
Oceans roaring
Trees dancing
Colours came into view I had never seen before
Creating sounds colourful shades of harmony
Browns and and reds, purples and all shades of green
So beautiful
The dynamics were extraordinary
Then I felt something well up inside me
Tears of unspeakable joy
Were filling my soul
This was beyond human telling
I thought how can I be hearing this
Then a voice in my head said
'Are you listening Jack — join in'
I said, I can’t it’s perfect
I’d ruin it
And God said
'It will only be complete
With your imperfect contribution
When you open your lips
It will go live
Streaming out beyond eternity
The perfect symphony
Praising the creator'"

Prayer:

God of Creation, may we hear the trees and the seas and the mountains calling each of us back into a relationship with them and You our Creator. Amen.
