Philippians 4: 4-7 (NRSVA)

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

It’s time to grab that cuppa, or put on your walking shoes and find that quiet moment.

Let’s take time…

Having worked hard all week to look for moments of stillness in the midst of the busyness and preparations, it’s important to guard it.

I love this time of year.

The warm twinkling of the lights in the cold darkness of a Scottish winter,

Do you remember what it was like as a child?

The wonder of it all?

The mystery?

Pause for a moment in the stillness of wherever you are…

And let your imagination journey…

With angels,

Across the world, through the ages…

Until you meet God in that moment…

As the urgent cry of a noisy new born interrupts the stillness…

And the wonder of it all…

That God…

The creator of the universe,

Slipped into human skin,

And nursed fussily in the arms of the young teenager on whom he now depended for his very survival…

All because of the love that God has for you and me!

Wow!

PRAYER:

Star Thrower

Mountain Carver

Life Breather,

That you took on

Skin and bone,

In its tiniest,

Most vulnerable form…

Chest heaving as first breath gulped…

With cries erupting,

And deep blue eyes

Opening, blinking in light…

Trying hard to focus

On those you had created for this moment

And this purpose…

To love and nurture you,

That you might show the love you have for us…

The wonder of it all…

The love it took.

The love it showed.

May that wonder

Fill me and move me,

To love you and others more,

That my heart may know your peace,

Not just in this moment of stillness…

But in all things

Now and forever.

Amen.
