Romans 10: 8-13 (NRSVA)

8 But what does it say?

‘The word is near you,
on your lips and in your heart’

(that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. 11 The scripture says, ‘No one who believes in him will be put to shame.’ 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. 13 For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

Answer: Start trusting your heart.

Faith is a heart thing it’s not really about the head. It’s like the athlete who turns up to run because that is the first step to winning the race. As I write these words there is a beautiful soft beam of sunlight streaming into the study through the window. It’s as though God is saying ‘You’ve got it’.

Faith is not about reasoning it all out. It’s about the Holy Spirit’s revelation to you. It’s about the beam of light that comes into the room and changes everything. It’s about putting your heart in your mouth and acknowledging you feel it in your bones!

Something wonderful happens when you say it out loud. When you say, “Jesus is Lord, Jesus is my Lord.”

I wonder how many people are closet Christians? They know what they feel — if only they could find the courage to say, “I believe in Jesus” Perhaps you’re thinking, ‘That’s me”. All I can say to you is it’s time to break free! It’s time to dance perhaps like David and risk all for the glory of God and take the leap of faith.

Prayer:

Lord,

I’ve so many questions

My mind wants proof

Yet my heart is ahead of the proof

It has completed the equation

My mind is looking for the working

My heart just wants to say out loud the answer

Found in the world of the creed

“I believe in God the Father Almighty”

To believe in the “Father”

Is to Know the “Son”

To Know the “Son”

Is to feel the Holy Spirit

To feel the Holy Spirit

Is to say “Jesus is Lord”

Lord,

Open my mouth and my lips will declare your glory.
