What is the kingdom of God like?

Matthew 13:31-32

The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast

31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.
32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

‘The smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.’

Today our thoughts turn from the seed to what it grows into – a plant where the birds find refuge.

When we think of the Kingdom that Jesus is teaching about what do we imagine?

What is the kingdom of God like?

Jesus often taught about the Kingdom of God, but what did He say about it?

Did he describe peace and prosperity, health and wealth, law and order?

Not really, No.

Jesus taught that it is present, how it grows, and who is welcome.

How is your life mirroring that?

How are you a sign that that the kingdom of God is here, how are you helping it grow, and are you welcoming others in?

Lord

This is hard!

This isn’t just me telling people about You and your love.

This means living your love and putting your love into practice.

This means forgiving those who hurt me,

And living grace, not teaching law.

Perhaps then for the kingdom to grow,

It first needs to begin in me,

I need to be transformed and grow…

What might that mean?

What might that look like?

Take my life Lord, scary and exciting as it is to offer it,

Mould me, and shape me,

Breathe new life into me,

So that each day I may grow more into the me that you made me to be,

Amen.
