Listen to this daily worship

Matthew 5: 14-16 (NRSVA)

14 ‘You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Stars are luminous. This will likely not be news to you especially given the daily appearance* of our own star, the sun.

*Except for viewers in Scotland.

We are not luminous. This, also, will likely not be news to you. If you turn out the lights we all become invisible (in terms of visible light anyway).

Stars, therefore, shine by their very existence.

For us to shine, it takes a very different kind of effort.

Prayer:

Light of the World,

From our very core, from every particle of our being let us radiate the purpose of creation.

We praise you!

Light of the World,

From the meditations of our heart, the words of our lips, and the actions of our hands let us radiate the purpose of your mission.

We praise you!

Light of the World,

What is our chief purpose?

To glorify you and enjoy you forever.

We praise you!

Amen.
