Psalm 130 (NRSVA)

1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
2     Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications!

3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
    Lord, who could stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with you,
so that you may be revered.

5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
    and in his word I hope;
6 my soul waits for the Lord
more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.

7 O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is great power to redeem.
8 It is he who will redeem Israel
    from all its iniquities.

We have all been there haven’t we? Like the psalmist, crying out to the Lord in our distress. Waiting in desperation for his words of hope to comfort our weary souls.

This has been a hard year for all of us. With a whole load of family issues and family health worries this has been a hard year for me personally. I can honestly say there were times this past year that all that got me through was prayer. My daily personal prayer, reaching out to friends asking them to pray with me and our daily 7am Sanctuary First community prayer. A few times I’ve jokingly said to God and friends, ‘I’m like Bon Jovi, Living on a Prayer.’ And it is true but that is a good thing. When we are living on a prayer we are relying completely on the Lord. We know we can’t do it by ourselves, it is the Lord who carries us. Praying keeps us connected, keeps us communicating with him.

We started the 7am Facebook time of prayer for Advent. But I heard the Lord say to me a week after we started, ‘Prayer is for life Laura, not just Christmas!’ And so, we continued it and our wee community meeting live each morning has grown. Friends are now joining us throughout the day, from throughout the world. It is such a joy to be part of this community. No matter how I feel when I wake up, I have to get and show up for my friends and for the Lord. I might start the day low or feeling broken but those 10 minutes sitting together in the presence of our Lord change the tone of the day. I leave our prayer gathering uplifted, joyful and ready to face the day partnered with the Lord, in community.

PRAYER:

Lord I’m living on a prayer

Take my hand

Because with you I’ll make it

Amen
