Seeking refuge on the road

Listen to this daily worship
Psalm 71: 1-6 (NIVUK)
1 In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
2 In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me;
turn your ear to me and save me.
3 Be my rock of refuge,
to which I can always go;
give the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel.5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord,
my confidence since my youth.
6 From my birth I have relied on you;
you brought me forth from my mother’s womb.
I will ever praise you.
Refugees on the road facing the threat of people smugglers and human traffickers.
For Thomas it seemed like a lifetime ago but it was in fact only a couple of weeks. A lifetime ago that was safe and comfortable. A job at the hospital, a warm home filled with love and laughter. Saturday mornings in the park with the kids and Sunday night family dinners.
Now Thomas lived on a prayer. Exhausted from the walk, exhausted from the hunger, exhausted from the fear. Exhausted but not able to sleep. Eyes always open, always ready for anyone or anything that would hurt his wife or children.
Deliver us, O my God.
Prayer:
Lord God
Forgive us when we look away from the suffering of refugees and the dispossessed.
Strip us of our apathy
Dissolve our hearts of stone
Cleanse our jaded spirits
Take away our fear
Fill us with your love
Give us hearts that seek your justice
Voices that challenge
Hands that act to care
And spirits that are alive in you
Amen
