Psalm 121 (NIV)

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;

indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;

the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

Let’s end this week reflecting on the Parable of the Man wIth Two Sons with a meditation inspired by Psalm 121.

Look at your hands — and know that God will always reach out for you, always know where to find you, always hold on to you.

Take your hands and put them to your ears — and know that God will always hear you, always listen, and never ignore you.

Take your hands and put them to your legs — and know God will always run to you, walk with you, carry you.

Take your hands and put them to your heart — and know God is with you throughout your life, through all that you encounter, through all that you experience, through all that you suffer. That through Christ God knows the pain of violence, of shame, of despair, of isolation. That nothing you go through will separate you from God.

Take your hands and place them on your head — and know God has a crown of flowers for your brow, for you are a beloved child and you will always be welcomed home to the feast, regardless of what you’ve done or what you’ve endured.

Place your hands gently before you and rest with God.

Prayer:

Thank you God for your steadfast tender love.

Amen.
