Matthew 13: 44-46 (NIVUK)

44 ‘The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

45 ‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

Hidden treasure and a pearl of great price – more unexpected gifts.

There is no end to the bounty of God.

We never know when another gift is going to fall into our hands.

No need for X marking the spot on the pirate map,

no competition to get there first.

God’s gifts are free.

Even his own dear Son was given.

All we have to do is receive.

What a gift!

Prayer:

God of love, we praise you.

God of gifts, we praise you.

God of the crashing waves,

of the quiet waters,

of the River Jordan,

of the font in the church,

of the spreading ripples,

we praise you.

Give us, we pray, the water of life to renew and refresh us.
